Abstract

By making an inquiry about entrance motives and satisfactory degree as to one¢¥s major with 120 freshmen (consisting of 79 daytime collegians and 41 night collegians) at a number of health-education colleges in Chinju as subjects, this research is designed to lead the freshmen through college life and provide useful materials for their orientation with the help of x¢¥-test to find out the statistical significance of responses per daytime collegian and night collegian. The significant level of all analyses is a=.05

The results of the research is as follows.
1. In response to the ¢¥Who are the most influential persons in their selecting the department, question in relation to entrance or selection motives, parents and relatives stand for 43.3% and in respect of their motives of choosing the Hygiene department, 70.0% of those respondents cite guarantee of getting a job¢¥ as the main reason. It turns out that they didn¢¥t have an enough understanding of the department in advance. As for the ¢¥When do you decide on the department?, question, 53.3 percent of the subjects said that they chose their major when applying, while night collegians (46.3%) said that they made a choice after the College Entrance Exam.

2. In respect to general lecture-satisfaction, they are in a degree satisfied and in regard to the ¢¥Why are you satisfied with the department , question, there exist a slight difference (p<.05) between night and daytime collegians with most of the subjects (32.5%) chose ¢¥ guarantee of getting a job¢¥ and ¢¥Because I hoped to enter this department., In regard with the ¢¥What makes you remain unsatisfie d, , there is a significant difference (p<.05); In case of most of day collegians, the ¢¥For learning the major is difficult¢¥ answer contributed to the greatest reason for not being satisfied. 63.6 percent of the respondents said in the negative in response to the question of changing their major. In relation to the question of

There is no statistical significant difference in relation to the other satisfactory degree and advance-knowledge of the major.
4. In the correlation analysis as to the satisfactory degree of the department, and of professors¢¥ lectures in the fields of specialization and of professors¢¥ lectures in the fields of culture, the former two stand at r=.387(p<.001), which is slightly high, and the Iater two factors account for r=.255(p<.01).
In conclusion, I would like to mare a strong suggestion that hygiene-related publicity activities and expert education should be carried out and that positive learning attitude and life guidance should be effected for the smooth life in college and future career and that right pride and esteem on the part of students as well as a sense of mission and self-confidence on the part of professors should be cultivated for the effectiveness of hygiene education.
